Cape Cod bike trails: choose by route and terrain
Choose the trail around your starting point, terrain tolerance and return plan—not simply the longest route.

Make the route measurable
Write down the exact start, turnaround point and finish. Decide whether your distance is one way, a loop or a return total. If one rider may want a shorter outing, choose a turnaround that does not split the party without a plan.
The DCR page uses differing whole-route lengths in different sections, so this guide uses “roughly 25 miles” rather than false precision. Your chosen segment and the official route map matter more than rounding the network total.
Check the trailhead, not just the trail
DCR lists free trail-user parking at several Rail Trail access points, including Stations Avenue in South Yarmouth and Route 134 in South Dennis. Nickerson State Park has a separate seasonal parking charge. A trailhead’s parking rule does not establish free beach admission or permission for unrelated all-day parking. Equipment and connections
If arriving by train, first check the CapeFLYER season and the route from the station to your chosen trailhead. If carrying a bicycle on a bus or ferry, verify that operator’s current carriage arrangements; acceptance on one service does not transfer to another.
